Subaru Teases Cosworth-Tuned WRX STI; Enthusiasts Drool in Anticipation

All we have is a photo of a Cosworth badge applied to the rear end of a Subaru WRX STI– but then, that’s all it takes to pique our interest.
Subaru has announced that it is working on a “special one-off project” with the storied Cosworth company to build a car that Subaru calls “truly staggering.”
Subaru promises the collaboration will produce a vehicle that raises the all-wheel-drive performance bar and that more information is coming closer to the car’s March release date. Given that the release was from Subaru’s UK press office and that Cosworth is a UK-based performance organization, we doubt the release will have much to do with the U.S., but sales are reportedly planned across the pond.
Cosworth has worked with various manufacturers and racing teams in the past (most notably those of Ford provenance) and is famous for creating world-beating performance engines for a wide variety of vehicles. Subaru has historically turned to Prodrive, the performance outfit that manages the automaker’s rally racing efforts, making a Cosworth tie-up a strange proposition.
Still, combine a car such as Subaru’s WRX STI and the legendary Cosworth, and we’re guessing that the result really will be something special. As for details, stay tuned in the weeks to come.
